What a day it was yesterday as we watched a thrilling hockey game between Team USA and Team Canada for Olympic Gold - the tempo of the game from the outset was very fast as there was a boistrous crowd in a sea of red chanting Go Canada Go! It was a nailbiter and when it appeared that gold was within their grasp with just seconds to go, Team USA tied it up. When it got to the last 5 minutes my eyes were glued to the tv and then OMG . . . We're going into overtime!! When I say that I watched the game - I'm really "listening" to the tv as its too nerve wracking to watch it 100% - but I got a lot of cutting done with the Big Shot on my next quilt purse. If I was nervous during regulation time I was extra nervous during overtime since its sudden death. Well, we're into overtime and by now I'm working on another flower pin . . . then I heard the loud roars, the horn going off and I actually missed the golden goal by Sidney Crosby as my head was down - but it was beautiful in replay.
It was a fantastic game with both teams playing so well. And I'm so glad that Ryan Kesler of Team USA (a superb hockey player) is on our Vancouver Canucks team as is the winning goalie for Team Canada - Roberto Luongo. Actually, there will be three medallists on the Vancouver Canucks, Luongo (Lou, Lou, Lou) with Gold, Kesler with Silver and Sami Salo (the wicked shot from the point - if he can only stay healthy) with Bronze.
After the game, there was time for a bit of a rest (LOL resting after watching tv - yes - after "watching" that game it was very tiring from the cheering and racing heart beats) and then onto the Closing Ceremonies which were just as entertaining as the Opening Ceremonies with a bit of humour as we poked fun at ourselves - the entertainers were fantastic with Neil Young, Avril Lavigne, Michael Buble, Nickleback, Hedley, Alanis Morissette and many others and little sketches by Michael J. Fox, Catherine O'Hare and William Shatner. It was a wonderful Closing Ceremonies to cap off 17 wonderful days of thrills and excitement.
They must be exhausted after their shifts as volunteers and I'm sure they'll cherish the memories of a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved with an Olympics game.
The colors of the Olympic banners hanging on light standards downtown looked to me like Tempting Turquoise, Brilliant Blue and Green Galore so I made a card incorporating two of those colors. On the main Brilliant Blue card stock is a 4" x 5.25" piece of Brilliant Blue that has been run through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder from the Occasions Mini (p. 35, #117335, $10.95) and then I used the corner rounder punch on the four corners. Its popped up on the front of the card with dimensionals.
Green Galore and Whisper White card stock were run through the Big Shot using the Top Note die. I stamped the flowers from Embrace Life with Classic Black ink and then colored the flowers with Brilliant Blue and Yoyo Yellow Markers on the white top note and then trimmed off the edges and matted it to the Green Galore top note. I cut a piece of the Whisper White Organza ribbon (love it!) and dyed the ribbon with Brilliant Blue Classic ink by holding one end with a sponge and then pulling it over the Ink pad and placed the finished top note on the card with dimensionals.
