Mojo Monday Make A Cake

It's been such a long time that I participated in a Mojo Monday challenge so this was a great sketch to take part.  Here's the sketch ~

and here's my submission

Do you like that navy color?  It's the new Midnight Muse in the 2012-2014 In Colors and it's a nice shade between Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy.  The stamp set is Make a Cake coming out in the catalogue in just a few days (!) and the Patio Party Designer Series Paper.  The DSP used in this card was just one sheet with the birthday cakes on one side and the Summer Starfruit design on the other so it was perfect for this card.

Gumball and Starfruit Floral Fusion Flowers

Gumball Green and Summer Starfruit - how about those names - don't they sound delicious?  I would not have thought of putting these two colors together but somehow it worked on this card.

The base cardstock of Gumball Green was run through the Big Shot using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder for the front. 

The Summer Starfruit piece is cut 4 1/4" x 3".  The Whisper White was run through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and trimmed to 4" x 2 3/4".

I used the Floral Fusion Sizzlit to cut the three sets of flowers and used the bone folder to soften the sides by curling them upward gently and then popped a gold brad in the centre.  They are positioned on the centre of the card over a strip of the new 3/8" Satin Stitched ribbon.

Sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes - what would I do without this great set of sentiments!

New In Colors!

My oh my how I love the new In Colors for 2012-2014 - they're simply beautiful!  I particularly like the Raspberry Ripple as it is similar to Rose Red (which was the color I first purchased when I went to my first Stampin' Up! workshop).  It's like a full bodied merlot - so rich and alive!  A complementary color is Primrose Petals and I used these two as the main colors for my first sneak peek of some of the new products coming in the new catalogue.

I combined the two colors to come up with this card using the new Betsy's Blossoms stamp set.  I made a background using the large blossom flower and inking it up with the Primrose Petals.   Wow - are the new stamp pads ever fantastic!!!  

I stamped it off for the lighter colors and even stamping it a third time where it is quite light and stamped with full ink for the darker blossoms.

The bird image is part of the set and it was stamped in Raspberry Ripple and Summer Starfruit - don't those names sound yummy?  I'll have another sample tomorrow using Gumball Green (this name just conjures up one of those gumball machines - lol).

The sentiment is from another new set called Itty Bitty Banners and it was cut out with one of the new Bitty Banners Framelits and layered onto a larger banner.

Shadow Stamping

Another card from our techniques class using the shadow stamping technique.  I remember when I purchased shadow stamps when I first started stamping and not yet an SU! demo but now that can easily be achieved without special stamps and simply using our clear blocks.

I love the combination of yellow and black and this turned out very nice with the small flower image from Fabulous Florets - thank goodness it is not retiring!  The ribbon is the black 1/2" scallop dots that I turned over to just show the back side and not the side with the polka dots.

A month long of goodbyes

Didn't realize that I had so many stamp sets that are retiring and many of them, favourites.  One of them, Friends Never Fade (p. 107, #118750, $21.95 (WM),  #120618, $16.95 (CM)  has four beautiful images and goes well with the Paisley Petals DSP (p. 184, #122367, $13.50)  that will also be going.

I designed this card for our techniques class using the Ghosting technique.  While we were making it, I looked at my sample and looked at Kathleen's finished card and hers looked much better than mine!  So I asked if I could take a picture of her card - lol.

We used Bravo Burgundy for the base cardstock.  I haven't used Bravo Burgundy for a long, long time and in the past two weeks have used it twice.

Rue des Fleurs - Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all moms - it's a beautiful day here in Metro Vancouver and hope you are enjoying the warm sunshine!

My card today was inspired by this card IN THIS POST.  At was a fun card to do and when I was considering the techniques we would be doing in our techniques class, the suspension card came to mine and I adapted it to use that technique.  The stamp set is Rue des Fleurs from the Occasions Mini which, unfortunately, will not be in the new catalogue coming out in June.  I love the set.

This may give you a better view of the suspended piece - still not a great angle but hopefully you can see the piece in the centre with the crochet thread running from the top to the bottom holding the focal piece.

We had a great time making the card, particularly using the Labels Collection Framelits, Adorning Accents Framelits and embossing folder.

Bright Blossoms for Mother's Day

This is Jen's card for me and I just love the colors she used.  The base card is a retired In Colors 2009-2010 Bermuda Bay and is such a beautiful vibrant color especially with the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder embossed on the front of the card.

The DSP is from the Smooches Suite which will be available in the new catalogue as will the Bright Blossoms stamp set.

Wisteria Doilies

Since Jen was here for the day we got together with Alannah, my other DD, and they treated me to an early Mother's Day lunch.  Along with that they brought out their cards for me and here's the one from Alannah and Lynn.

Alannah made hers using Wisteria Wonder cardstock and this color, will, unfortunately be retiring at the end of this month as it is part of the 2010-2012 In Colors.  I love the softness of this color.  She used the Delicate Doilies stamp set and Teeny Tiny Wishes.  She added a scallop edge cut with the Adorning Accents Edgelit die to the bottom focal piece and it adds that extra dimension to the card.  The DSP is the lovely Flirtatious Specialty DSP (p. 183, #122360, $15.95) and also will be gone at the end of the month.  Included in this package of DSP are two sheets of doilies that can be cut and used on various projects.  One sheet is in Melon Mambo and the other in Pumpkin Pie.  And the great thing about it is that on the other side they are white so essentially you are getting three colors of doilies.

And every mom likes a little bling and those rhinestones add just the right touch to this card.  Thanks Alannah!

Pumpkin Mixed Bunch

I'm so happy this set will be carried in the new catalogue as I still have mine unmounted when I purchased it from the Occasions Mini!  Jen was up from Bellevue today and it's great that both of my DD's share the same passion as I do with paper crafting.

She participates at the Issaquah Farmers Market at Pickering Barn near Costco at 1730 10th Avenue Northwest in Issaquah, WA  during the spring/summer months and sets up her display of cards and other projects for sale and does a brisk business.  Here is one of her cards that she'll have have available at the market this weekend.  If you're in the Issaquah neighbourhood  this Saturday, be sure to stop by and see her. 

There are jewelry vendors and other crafters who sell woodwork, quilts, honey, plants and - we are always looking for these when out at a market - lots of food vendors!

She used a Pumpkin Staz-on ink and then punched out the flowers with the Blossom Punch that will also be in the new catalogue.
